In his State of the Chargers presser, TT shared with us his Indianapolis allegory.
It took many years to establish a Colts fan base in Indy. What does this mean for LAC ? It changes everything.

We have presumed that there exists an urgency to fix the Oline in time for Rivers,
and to have a winning team going forward with the move into SoFi. What is now clear, is that this will be a slower, more methodical "build on the run."

TT spoke of having the base of the pyramid in place, culture, foundation, and Head Coach. We have a core of young players growing into leadership roles. The sign of getting to a level of consistently competing for Super Bowl victories is having a broader group of 2, 3, 4 & 5 year players as stars and leaders. That will take time.

We will try to retain our own, draft well, then look at UFAs who can help us win.
Depth will be built across the position groups. We see players such as Thomas Davis and Brandon Mebane here to help mentor and keep the build going.

"It's the Oline, stupid !" That is the mantra of all Charger fans. However, improvement will play out in a different manner than fans want it to.
Oline is but one position group. Complementary football.

TT made numerous comments @ SOTC signaling where we are going at Oline. He admitted that some things up front need to be fixed, but it isn't all bad.

When asked about Tevi, TT said he is talented enough to start in this league. When asked about Okung, TT said we will see how Russell comes back. He did not say if Russell comes back. Look for an extension for Okung half way thru camp.

Pouncey's tremendous leadership is crucial to making the Oline work. The doctors will provide an assessment soon. Mike will get short contracts until he is done.

If you do not think that Okung, Tevi and Pipkins are our front three at OT going forward, then you have another think coming. The problem that needs to be fixed is at IOL.

Furthermore, I remind you that the Chargers could have already done everything fans want them to do now last year, and the Chargers elected not to do it.

If you remember, we were interested in Jonah Williams, Andre Dillard in round 1. We passed on all the others, because of scheme fit. Then Pipkens was selected in round 3. We have our OT, and he got snaps in 2019. Now, OT is NOT a PON !!

TT elaborated further. He said we had the money to do what we wanted last off season. TT did not want to invest in UFA Olinemen. Fact.

In the 2020 draft, Andrew Thomas and Austin Jackson are the two tackles that fit. If WAS does not take Thomas, NYG will. Six is too early for Jackson. We will go in a different direction.

Pouncey's situation is potentially the problematic one. There must be leadership at Center. Qberry is a depth piece at Center and Guard, but not our alpha dog Center of the future.

We will draft our Center of the future, as that is what needs to be fixed up front.

Build the defense early in the 2020 draft, and then get some weapons, as the draft is deep at WR, RB.

Finally, the big one. I would like to move on from PR, but here's my guess. TT will sign Phil to a two year contract on March 10. It will be front loaded so as to allow the club to opt out after year one, and to create flexibility and cap room for Joey.
If you watched the PO game against Patriots last year, you would realize Our coaches were out matched.

TT has made a lot of mistakes in the draft starting with Fluker, Verret, Gordon, Williams, even Bosa and Tillery. D.james May be the only value pick in 1St rd.
the reason I say Bosa was bad is because FO did not see a repeat of Manning and lost again. Mark my words, Bosa will not sign long term with Charger.

so we are left with TT flashes of greatness picks.

Same reason Lynn and TT kept Benjamin, Mebane, Square, and Geremy Davis. None of them inspire confidence in me. What do they all have in common? They're veteran players with experience. Lynn's and Telesco's justification? They contributed to a 12-4 team. But just because a player or players contributed to a good record doesn't mean they'll have the same results or do better.

Those veteran players that were brought back really effected the group of their positions. The WR and DT/NT depth was a train wreck.

It sounds like TT has a 20 year plan, it taking him 7 years to establish the foundation.

The franchise tackle comes in year 14, franchise qb in year 18.

Chargers will win the Super Bowl in 2042, barring setbacks.

gosh darn they wasted so much cap space on these players. Benjamin, Mebane, Dzubnar - they all represented the comfort factor. They signed Davis and Perryman - but again, maybe sign ONE really good player and not a guy on his last couple years and PErryman - who has been inconsistent.
