OT: A Little Love For One Of My Idols - RIP Neil Peart

RIP Neil Peart. You were my absolute idol growing up. You're the reason why I started drumming. No one IMO was a better lyricist. Your poetry put to music was amazing. :frown::frown:

Mentioned him in the RIP thread. I'm not a drummer, but recognized him in my top three and all gone now.

I have dozens of drummer friends as i play music. Can’t go one full page on any social media without reading them. He was that impactful.

He was really good. I was a big fan of Rush growing up. Well still am. I think the first album I REALLY listened to was Moving Pictures - than got into the earlier stuff. Three guys, all good musicians. But, Peart, pretty much known as one of the best drummers of all time. Dave Grohl said he got into drums because of Peart. Flea and Kirk Hammett spoke well of Peart. Stuart Copeland said no drummer had more people "air drum" to a drummer than Peart.

And yes, an amazing lyricist. For many teens in the 80's Subdivisions was their anthem.

Not a big Rush fan but do like some of their stuff and Peart was no doubt the best drummer to me. He did some incredible things. His drumming didn't go unnoticed and what made me listen to them more.

Rush fans should see the movie “I love you man”.

I wasn’t a big Rush fan but very rare to have a drummer/lyricist. Don Henley may have been the only other one. I don’t think Phil Collins did it in Genesis.

I first saw them live in 1977 and then over 25 times throughout the years. Downstairs tucked away in my collection is a used Neil drumstick given to me by his tech after one of the Moving Pictures tour shows at the Long Beach Arena. Incredible band and a flawless musician at his craft......

Neil Peart, John Bonham, and Stewart Copeland were my drumming idols growing up. Most teen-aged boys my age had Bo Derek posters hanging on their walls. I had a poster of Neil Peart's drums on my wall. I spent most of my early drumming days trying to emulate his drumming. Just the greatest rock drummer of all time. RIP
