So let's say Rivers doesn't want to resign but the Chargers Franchise Tag him, does he demand a sign and trade then?

I think if we used the tag it would be on a player who can show they are worthy of an extension. Like we did with Ingram in 2017. Henry would be a guy i think could get the tag. And the Pats would be a team to try and make a deal for him. Not a great year for TE's. And the Pats really need one.

You dont need to tag Rivers prior to a trade because the compensation for him wont be much. The tag will be north of 25M.

Rivers if he gets paid big money for a couple years in free agency could net us a decent comp.

If the Chargers don't want him to go can they make him stay via the tag?

Rivers already said he wants to play for chargers next year. It’s the owners/FO that does not want him.

              Says who?

Why pack up and move if not known?

Uhh... this has certainly not been announced anywhere.

                  That was my question.

Either the Chargers already told him under the table they aren't going to make him an offer or more likely he doesn't care if they want him back or not, possibly because he feels disrespected that they didn't offer him an extension a long time ago (after 2018 12-4 run) and perhaps sick of playing 16 road games.

If true he's either ready to retire or figures either Tampa or Miami could be options when negotiation period opens up. Either way it's a win for him in terms of taxes - 0 state income tax.

Guess we shall see if he uproots his family from sd.
