Report: 'Overwhelming expectation' Chargers will draft Tua Tagovailoa if available
Matt Johnson, Sportsnaut
The 2020 NFL Draft is fast-approaching, and former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains the biggest wild card in the first round. While there are growing concerns about his durability, even after video of his impressive Pro Day was sent out, many around the league expect Tagovailoa to land with one specific team.
Tua Tagovailoa is the biggest wild card of the NFL Draft. According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, there is an overwhelming expectation around the NFL that the Los Angeles Chargers will select Tagovailoa with the No. 6 overall pick if he is available. Los Angeles is in the market for its future face of the franchise after allowing Philip Rivers to leave, creating an opening that Tagovailoa would slide into perfectly.
While the 22-year-old quarterback looked healthy during his workout, multiple NFL teams failed him medically and view him as too much of a risk to draft early. Even with more certainty that he is fully recovered from his dislocated hip, organizations have concerns about his long-term durability. He also has suffered a broken index finger, sprained right knee and high ankle sprain on both sides during his collegiate career.
However, the Chargers seem determined to add a potential franchise quarterback this season. While Tagovailoa comes with medical red flags, he’s also one of the most talented players in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s received comparisons to Drew Brees for his exceptional accuracy and was even compared to Patrick Mahomes for his ability to throw on the run.
This could be a great fit given the Chargers don’t need Tagovailoa to start right away. The team intends to start Tyrod Taylor next season, and he could be a serviceable bridge starter for the season.
The Miami Dolphins likely represent the greatest threat to draft Tagovailoa ahead of the Chargers. However, there are reports that the Dolphins prefer Justin Herbert. If the Dolphins opt to take Herbert with the No. 5 selection, that would likely allow the Chargers to avoid needing to trade up with Tagovailoa falling right into their lap.
Tagovailoa will remain the most discussed prospect leading up to the NFL Draft with teams and his agent leaking information to try and swing his draft stock. While there are concerning durability issues that carry immense risk, it seems likely that he’ll avoid a draft-day slide and wind up a top-12 pick on April 23.

do think that besides Jeaux and Jake (Fromm), and likely the two guys from Washington, that Cam will also be in this bunch that does not disappoint.
Fromm is going to be a warrior.
Tua will miss half his games because of injury and cut after his 3rd season.
Herbert will be Josh Rosen 2.0
Hurts will be the next Cardale Jones.
I'm very sorry.

Bottom line
Newton, 30, is seemingly a shell of his former self. Here’s a dude that has lost each of his past eight starts. He missed all but two games last season with a Lisfranc injury. That came after the former league MVP underwent shoulder surgery.
While Newton’s contract ($21.1 million cap hit in 2020) is enticing to teams, the injury risk and his regression on the field is concerning. That’s why the former No. 1 pick has been met with a bare market.RT Taliese Fuaga, DT Jer'Zhan Newton, NT T'Vondre Sweat, LB Cedric Gray, TE Ben Sinnott, RB Daijun Edwards, FS Cole Bishop, QB Joe Milton

apparently Cam is not the only one being put on notice for "self promotion."
It’s lying season in the NFL, so take this information with the requisite grain of salt: Reportedly, at least two teams are concerned about all the attention Tua Tagovailoa has been seeking since his hip surgery, and about the leaks that have transpired about his health.
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald wrote about this dynamic late Wednesday night. He shared that, “at least two NFL teams, including the Miami Dolphins,” have noticed that Tagovailoa is trying too hard to sell himself. And he wrote that “it’s not necessarily a good thing.”
Salguero ran through all the high-profile interviews Tagovailoa has engaged in since the Super Bowl, noting he’s the only quarterback among the top four who has engaged in so many like ventures. He also pointed to leaks about Tagovailoa’s NFL Combine interviews with the Dolphins and Washington, and to the leaks about his health progress.
He wrote: “Then there were the curiously timed leaks of Tagovailoa’s progress as he rehabilitated from his hip surgery. I counted two of these before moving on — and, not shockingly, both reported positive news but lacked tangible details or evidence.”
As all of this relates to Miami in particular, Salguero noted that Tagovailoa’s behavior goes against what head coach Brian Flores is looking to instill as he builds a new culture with the Dolphins.
“Flores likes his team as insulated from the outside as possible. He doesn’t like leaks. He doesn’t like medical information getting out. And he doesn’t want his quarterback distracted by national television interviews. Or local television interviews. Or freakin’ Face Time calls spent with a friend, for that matter, if it steals time from preparation. Flores wants his players focused on what is inside and private to the team.”
We recently delved into why Tagovailoa may end up taking a draft-day tumble due to his medical issues and because NFL teams have to rely on third-party evaluations for medicals during the COVID-19 pandemic. If other teams really do have the same concerns expressed in Salguero’s column, the idea he could fall is even more salient.
However, given the level of talent this young gunslinger has in his left arm, all of this may end up being a gigantic smokescreen in the end.RT Taliese Fuaga, DT Jer'Zhan Newton, NT T'Vondre Sweat, LB Cedric Gray, TE Ben Sinnott, RB Daijun Edwards, FS Cole Bishop, QB Joe Milton
