And not 7 that makes no sense. Just do it like the NBA where it's 1vs8 2vs7 3vs6 and 4vs5. Each Conference can play 2 games each on a saturday and 2 each on a Sunday and if need be you can do some playoff games on a Monday also.
Might As Well Just Expand To 8 Teams For Playoff Format

And I like the idea of giving the best team in the conference an advantage... otherwise I think you devalue the regular season too much
Exactly. I don't mind the #1 seed getting the bye. I did think the #2 team getting a bye was questionable, and that extra team makes the playoff chase more compelling in my opinion.

I think TV can be tricky with this. Team plays the late game Sunday and the early game Saturday. If you add more games - do they play Monday and than have to come back Saturday.
I am good with the 6 games - three on Saturday, three on Sunday.

I think 8 would be good, no way a 1 seed should lose to a 8 seed unless weird fumbles, calls, etc. A 1 seed majority of the time can rest in week 17 (week 18 2021).
So I would do this if I were the NFL:
First round of playoffs: 16 teams in 4 days;
Friday 6pm EST 1 seed vs 8 seed in either the AFC or NFC depending on which #1 seed is towards the East coast.
Friday 9pm EST 6pm PST 1 seed vs 8 in either the AFC or NFC depending on which #1 seed is towards the West coast.
Saturday 2 games 3pm & 7pm the 2 seeds vs. the 7 seeds
Sunday 2 games 3pm & 7pm the 3 seeds vs. the 6 seeds
Monday 2 games same as Friday with the 4 seeds playing the 5 seeds
Second round of playoffs, 8 teams left;
Saturday 2 games winners of Fridays and Saturdays games play at 3pm & 7pm
Sunday 2 games winners of Sundays and Mondays games play at 3pm & 7pm
Third round Championship games, 4 teams left;
Sunday 2 games 3pm & 7pm
ProBowl
SuperBowl

I am not sure you can. If a team plays late Sunday, you cannot expect them to be playing on Friday against a team with more rest. Or a team plays Saturday against a team that plays Monday
The following weeks games are only Saturday and Sunday in my example, so they'd only lose one day at the most.
