You could have stopped with what the fans get, because more than likely it will be an 8-8 team that may as well have been a bye.

When did a 10-6 team miss out? I recall it happened to the Patriots, and it was glorious.

I've seen it when an 11-5 team didn't make it one year.

"The Denver Broncos (pictured) posted an 11-5 record in 1985 which placed them one game behind the Los Angeles Raiders in the AFC West. Denver lost out on the playoffs via tie breakers to the New York Jets and New England Patriots who also posted 11-5 records that season.

The Patriots suffered a similar fate in 2008 when they finished 11-5 and missed the playoffs while the 8-8 San Diego Chargers won the AFC West. Although New England had the identical record as Miami and Baltimore, they lost out on the division crown to the Dolphins and the second wild-card spot to the Ravens based on conference records.

Here are the 10-6 teams that didn’t make the playoffs since the NFL expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978.

      2012 Chicago Bears (10-6)
      2010 New York Giants (10-6)
      2010 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-6)
      2007 Cleveland Browns (10-6)
      2005 Kansans City Chiefs (10-6)
      2003 Miami Dolphins (10-6)
      1991 Philadelphia Eagles (10-6)
      1991 San Francisco 49ers (10-6)
      1989 Washington Redskins (10-6)
      1989 Green Bay Packers (10-6)
      1988 New York Giants (10-6)
      1988 New Orleans Saints (10-6)
      1986 Cincinnati Bengals (10-6)
      1986 Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
      1985 Washington Redskins (10-6)
      1981 Denver Broncos (10-6)
      1980 New England Patriots (10-6)
      1979 Washington Redskins (10-6)"

I didn't know that about the 85 Pats getting in (this is the 85-86 season correct?). I would of loved for the Pats to not of gotten in.

I think everyone would have loved to of seen the 15-1 Bears play the Dolphins in a rematch against the only team that beat them that year.

That would of been the most watched SuperBowl at the time and would probably of been a closer game, instead of 46-10 could of been 32-24 and very exciting. Walter Payton and that D vs. Dan Marino.

Going back to the 80s I had to look it up. That was the Steve Grogan era and can't remember them being anything mention-able until Drew Bledsoe came onto the scene during the 90s. After that it's been Brady forever. Some people In New England might have had their entire lives during the Brady era. LOL!

Yes Ditka head coach carried off the field on his players shoulders, Rex Ryan's dad Buddy Ryan defensive co-ordinator also carried off the field by the players with one of the most dominating defenses ever, they played a 4-6 (1) defense.

The defense was so dominant that they had to take it easy on practice to spare the offense.

Yep it was amazing to watch. But Miami was the Bears kryptonite that season. Not sure if we will ever see a defense quite like that ever again just because of all the rules now geared toward the offense.
