Herbert's season stats for 2021 is

    5014 yards - 2nd in the league to Brady's 5,316
    38 TD passes - 3rd to Brady's 43 and Stafford's 41
15 INTs - 3rd, tied with Taylor Heinicke and Josh Allen; Trevor Lawrence and Matthew Stafford are tied for 1st with 17
    443 completions - 2nd to Brady's 485
    672 pass attempts - 2nd to Brady's 719
.659 completion percentage (it's hard to rank this, with so many players throwing passes in the NFL)
97.7 rating (again, hard to rank with so many players throwing passes)
53 passes of 20+ yds - 10th in the league
15 passes of 40+ yds - tied with Joe Burrow for 2nd; Stafford is 1st with 18
7.5 yds per attempt - hard to rank, but by comparison Brady's was 7.4 while Burrow's was 8.9 and Stafford's 8.1

We all remember Brees as the prolific QB on that high-powered NO offense.

The truth is that it took Brees being an 8 season vet (with 3 of those seasons learning Lombardi's system) to get to that 30+TD/5000 yards a season plateau.

Herbert did it in year 2.

Herbert's next step up would be 40+ TDs/5000 yards. Thats vintage Brees/Brady/Rogers territory.

Herbert is like every other human being, he will continue to get better. It was his first season in a new offense, and there was a lot of new stuff. Now, there is an awful lot of overlap between offenses in the NFL, so some of the "new" offense was almost the same as the "old" offense. And new coaches take advantage of that in the 1st year they take over. But as Herbert throws to his receivers more and more, the accuracy and timing will get better and better, the more he does it. The times when he has a wide-open guy that he doesn't find will decrease because he will get so good at making his reads that he will go through them so quickly he will look like he isn't even bothering. He will become automatic at seeing the holes in defenses. All that stuff will just get better and faster.

Most people, especially fans and sportswriters tend to remember their favorite players based on their primes. They forget, that even the players who come in and have an immediate impact, all got better until they got to the point age started their decline. How many fans and sportwriters remember how LT missed the cutbacks over and over again, to the point he NEVER broke long runs? How many people remember how Darren Sproles could hardly catch a punt? Both of those guys not only overcame those problems, but they got really, really good in those areas. NFL rosters are in constant flux, and players are constantly developing, so players getting better is always happening.

Haha. Remember Brees' first two seasons as a starter in SD? At the end of 2003, his third overall season, it looked like his career might be done. Fortunately for him, Rivers held in 2004 and missed training camp. Marty had no choice but to go with Brees, and Drew looked like totally different QB - 12-4 season, division title, the playoffs, Pro Bowl. I remember him talking about how the game had slowed down for him in 2004 and he was able to see so much more.

I remember Drew getting benched by Marty for Flutie (against the Vikings?) And drew pleading his case.
I was so torn because I loved Flutie AND had high hopes for Brees.

                  Here’s all the franchise breakdown.
Herbert set the Chargers’ single-season record for passing touchdowns, passing yards and completions.

He might be in hibernation, so i'll help.

                      Technically, the Chargers are 2nd in 40+ yard pass plays;
however, how many of those plays are deep catches 40 + yards down field?
By my count, very few: 7 to be exact. The big Mike Williams play in OT was a 20 yard reception in which he continued running, which made it into a 40 + yard play.

Most in that grouping are like that, which hardly force safeties to drop back in coverage. It allows them to crowd closer to the line of scrimmage in a tight shell

Well just hope that they can have more and more of those. As that they are a very young group on the rise. Just need to keep on building and building there.

                          10. Herbert has been pressured on 177 of his 672 dropbacks this season, according to PFF. He has made just two turnover-worthy throws on those 177 dropbacks. That is a 1 percent turnover-worthy-play rate when under pressure — best in the league among qualified quarterbacks. Teddy Bridgewater is in second. His turnover-worthy-play rate when under pressure is 3.2 percent. Aaron Rodgers is at 4 percent. Tom Brady is at 3.9 percent. Herbert is a “premium decision-maker,” as Staley put it last week.

This is why I was so high on JH during the draft, he is really smart A+ Student, microbiology I believe.....He will be something really special I presume.....if Bolts can Rev up the defense to increase turnovers and off the field on 3rd downs, can you imagine the points Bolts will put on the board with the O having 2 or 3 more possessions per game?
