So, he who shall remain nameless owes the other owners over $600 million for relocation fees, the NFL $200 million already, and now possibly another $250 million? So, he'll be in debt over a billion?
The value of the team supposedly went up a billion just by moving 75 miles up the freeway, right? I sure hope it's worth more now otherwise he's upside down?

Spanos is so bad he should be fired. Unfortunately, he can't be.

"Starting in 2019 the team has to start paying its $650 million relocation fee. Plus they spent several million dollars on moving their facilities to Orange County (on a 10-year lease), leasing StubHub Center for games, and a $12.75 million payment to the city of San Diego to get out of their lease at Qualcomm Stadium.

Let’s estimate that’s about $700 million they paid to move from San Diego to Los Angeles in order to increase their franchise value by $267 million.

Now, had they used that money instead to … I don’t know … let’s say try to build their own stadium in San Diego would it make a difference? Yes. Yes it would.

The NFL offered $300 million to build something in the Chargers’ existing home. Add that to the $700 million the Bolts obviously have access to since they’re paying it in L.A. and you have a cool $1 billion.

That leaves them $200 million short of the estimated $1.2 billion San Diego stadium build. It would stand to reason that all these developers who are trying to get their hands on the Mission Valley site right now through Measures E and G could probably have jumped on board with that kind of cash influx and VOILA!

The Chargers have themselves a brand new privately financed stadium that they own a majority of, allowing them to get a nice chunk of the revenue from all of those non-football events that would be held there, drastically increasing their franchise value because the earning potential rises exponentially.

The old adage is true: you have to spend money to make money. Stan Kroenke is doing just that and it seems to be paying off in a big way. Dean Spanos is not doing that and … well you know.

They probably would have if the city, sans taxpayers, were willing to cover all infrastructure improvements, cost overruns, and maintenance.
If you live, pay SDC taxes, are you good with perhaps $1+ billion in cost overruns, $200-$400 in infrastructure upgrades (good for everyone at least), and annual maintenance costs of $10s of Millions?
Shit the citizens wouldn’t approve a hotel room tax.
Billionaires are looking for taxpayer provided loopholes to risk/use money they will never be responsible for.

Weird that the citizens wouldn't approve a hotel tax that wouldn't eefect them at all. Sure would be nice to have all our opponents from football and MLB paying those taxes though helping to build that stadium. It's how Vegas is doing it as well..... To the tune of 750 mil.

It is how the majority of state tax revenue in NV is collected. Without hotel room taxes and other taxes tourists pay, NV would be a fucking poor state.

Yeah but they raised the hotel taxes for the stadium.

The citizens said hell yeah..... It don't effect us. That's the mentality of a city that wants a team as opposed to one that don't care.

One more confirmation of what we've known for years--that the Spani are not only tightwads, but have a poor business sense...heck, they would have been better off buying up a large tract of land in Jamul or Campo and building a stadium there, than the L.A. deal, where the Bolts will forever be Kronke's weak, poor, ugly sister...
