Now that the draft is over, the coaching staffs are filled and most FAs are signed (please sign one more in Peters TT!), I'm wondering what everything thinks about how the AFC West shapes up this season.
The Chiefs won the Superbowl. Hard to imagine anyone unseating them this year barring, a Mahomes injury. They have another year before their 2 big contracts will force them to let a lot of players leave.
Broncos were 7-9. Their entire season rests on Lock and they certainly got him some offensive skill players in the draft. Not sure how long it will take them to get on the same page and how Lock does now that defensive coaches have a little game film on him. Clearly they feel the need to try and win shootouts with the Chiefs.
The Raiders are an odd bunch and I think they also want to go the winning the shootout route. I think they over-drafted players and it's really hard to trust Carr at QB. Would not be surprised to see him benched for Mariota.
The Chargers are trying to mimic the Ravens and 49ers smash mouth ball control offense and play good defense. I think the defense will be good, maybe even very good with some health and the infusion of talent from FA and the draft. The left side of the offensive line is a huge question mark and Taylor's limitations at QB will not leave the defense much margin for error.
I'll say it's the Chiefs winning the division and roll the dice for 2nd through 4th. I'll pick the Chargers second just because I always expect the best, followed by Denver and Oakland.
