The planet of the apes is a dangerous place for an alien - we have people just waiting to get their hands on any alien tech and would kill them all to get it - we are the aggressive species. If we find a planet that looks like it might have life we would send probes and robot ships to check it out. Why wouldn't they?

Their tech would leave us completely helpless.
