As soon as I read Barry Sanders the greatest football player of all time the author lost all credibility. Most exciting player I ever saw for sure. Not even a top 5 RB IMO. Too many drives were halted by his negative plays trying to bounce a big play, he couldn't catch a cold, and couldn't pick up the blitz for shit. What always bothered me was the situational awareness. On second and six driving the ball, take the 2 or 3 yard gain, not the 4 years loss dancing around for the big play. Third and 4 is much easier than 3 Rd and 10.

FWIW, 7 of his 9 seasons I got all their games on TV (my undergrad was an hour and a half away, and my MBA was across the bridge. I also saw him live at least 12 times).

You don't think Barry is a top 5 RB? That's is so strange.

Philip Rivers set #Chargers record by completing final 20 passes Sunday. To that point: 15-of-22, 175 yds, 2 INT. Finished 20-20-229 w/ 2 TD

Nope....I do not. I do think he is the single most exciting player I have ever seen.

Again, I hated the hundreds of times I saw them moving the ball, get a second and 6 or 7. Barry would lose 3 or 4 looking for the big play, when he could have taken 2or 3 to set up 3rd and short. Drive killers. Sure he would make amazing runs and fill the highlite reel, but it is hard to win consistently playing that way. This happened a lot. He was also poor at punching it in inside the 10, short yardage, couldn't catch a cold, and was a lousy blitz pick up. He sold tickets, had everyone on the edge of their seat any time he touched the ball, and I absolutely loved watching him live and on the TV. However, due to the limitations in his game and the way he played it, I would not rank him in the top 5 best running backs of all time and aruably not since I started watching football in 1979. I would rank him as the most exciting player I have ever seen and the top guy I would pay to watch because he could do things on the field no one else could. To me most exciting does not = the best. I prefer an all around back in the mould of Walter, LT, and Faulk to name a few. I can definitely list 5 backs I would build a team around before I would select Barry.
