Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, the Chargers had interest in former Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson, but not at the position most fans would think. Despite many mock drafts and experts believing the Los Angeles Chargers would select Lamar Jackson with their first-round pick, it appears the franchise didn't even view the former Heisman winner as a quarterback.
The stars seemed to align for the Chargers on draft night, Jackson was available when they were on the clock, but he may not have been a realistic option for them with the 17th overall selection.
On “The Lounge Podcast,” Jackson revealed Los Angeles viewed him as a receiver rather than a quarterback.
“It was a Chargers scout who told me about it. He was the first one to come to me about it. I’m like, ‘What?’ He caught me off guard with it. I even made a face at first like, ‘What?’ I thought he was trying to be funny but he kept going with it. So it just became blown out of proportion.”
