    BREAKING: Former Chargers LB Kyle Emanuel retiring at age 27

    The 2015 fifth-round selection calls it quits Early Thursday morning, former Chargers linebacker Kyle Emanuel took to twitter to announce his retirement from the NFL. In his statement, he doesn’t cite any specific reason that led him to this decision, but states that the injuries that have begun to pile up obviously swayed his decision to prioritize his long-term health. Emanuel became a free agent following the 2018 season and the Chargers showed zero signs of interest in bringing him back for next season. Emanuel was selected in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State University. In college, Emanuel won four-straight FCS National Championships with the Bison and was the recipient the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player at the FCS level, following his senior season. He made his first career start in the 2015 season-opener against the Detroit Lions where he went on to record three total tackles, including his first career sack and intercepti
