Chargers re-sign Damion Square to 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with Damion Square to keep him in what will now be “Powder Blue” jerseys next year on a 1-year deal. Square has been a late bloomer during his career. He doesn’t possess the wear-and-tear most 30-year-old veterans in the NFL would as he’s only seen significant time on the field in the last 3 seasons. 2018 saw him take hold of the starting job with Corey Liuget missing most of the year due to beginning his year on suspension and ending the year on Injury Reserve. This lead Square to career highs in playing time, as well as tackles (31), sacks (3) and pass deflections (3). With the addition of 1st-round pick Jerry Tillery, Square looks to add to the rotation at defensive tackle, where the depth chart consists of Brandon Mebane, Jerry Tillery, Justin Jones and now Damion Square. There looks to be an upcoming training camp battle between veteran T.Y. McGill, 7th-round pick Cortez Broughton, and UDFA Eurndraus Bryant for what appears to be the final spot available.
