    College Football Playoff to expand to eight teams in near future?

    Many fans and analysts feel strongly that the current College Football Playoff format simply does not include enough teams, and it may not be long before we see a significant change on that front. According to Joel Klatt of FOX Sports, rumblings from inside college football indicate there is a “good chance” the College Football Playoff will expand from four to eight teams within the next five years. One of the Power Five conference commissioners said prior to the season that he has not seen any significant movement away from the four-team format and noted that it is set through 2026, so the timeline Klatt reported may be a bit off. There has been plenty of support for the current system with the people at the top of college football’s food chain, so expansion would certainly be met with some opposition.
