Houston DL Ed Oliver skipping bowl game to prepare for NFL Draft

Ed Oliver’s college career has come to a close. The Houston defensive lineman announced on social media Friday that he will be skipping the Cougars’ bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft. Oliver is the latest athlete to join the trend of top draft prospects skipping bowl games to protect their NFL careers, following the likes of Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey. Oliver announced his plans prior to the season to enter the NFL Draft, so Houston knew his junior year would be his last with the team. Oliver only ended up playing eight games due to a knee injury. His time with Houston included a publicized run-in with Major Applewhite over a coat on the sidelines. Oliver had 192 tackles (53 for a loss), 13.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 32 career games.
