Julian Edelman, Sean McVay played each other in college

Two primary figures in Sunday’s Super Bowl LIII have a bit more history between them than your average foes. Sean McVay was a wide receiver for the Miami (OH) RedHawks in 2007, when his team managed to see off the Kent State Golden Flashes, led by dual-threat quarterback Julian Edelman. McVay will coach the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl, while Edelman lines up for the New England Patriots as one of Tom Brady’s favorite receiving targets. McVay had three catches in the game, while Edelman tallied more than 300 total yards. McVay went directly into coaching as an assistant for Jon Gruden after graduating from Miami in 2008. Edelman became a seventh-round pick for the Patriots in 2009, where he was converted to wide receiver and carved out an excellent NFL career that led to this meeting. McVay had a pretty solid athletic career before going into coaching. He’ll be hoping he gets the same result against Edelman on Sunday as he did in their meeting over a decade ago.
