While no Hokie was selected in last week’s NFL draft, some are signing deals with NFL teams as undrafted free agents. Last weekend was a tough one for the Virginia Tech football program. For the first time since 1993, the Hokies did not have one single player drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. The most draftable players were offensive tackle Yosuah Nijman and defensive tackle Ricky Walker. While those two weren’t drafted, it didn’t take them long to find a home as Nijman quickly signed with the Packers after the draft. It’s an excellent opportunity for Nijman as the depth in Green Bay isn’t great and his experience playing both tackle spots could help him land a spot on the 53-man roster. Walker, meanwhile, announced he had signed with the Dallas Cowboys. While some would consider Walker a bit undersized, he is actually an ideal fit for Dallas defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli’s scheme.
