OFFENSIVE LINE, KICKER & PUNTER, LINEBACKER, RECEIVER, TIGHT END, DEFENSIVE LINE IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa is at its best when it’s pounding the ball on the ground and wearing down defenses. From there, the Hawkeyes strike with the play-action pass. As a result, the program has produced some memorable players at the position. Five of the top seven on the school’s all-time rushing list toted the pigskin for coach Kirk Ferentz. The coaches even tried him at defensive back. Then he missed a season while at JUCO working on grades. That made his Doke Walker-winning season of ’08 even more incredible. His 1,850 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns that year represent program record
