With the exception of a few years here and there when he decided to see what life was like in the NFL, Nick Saban has been around college football ever since he was a player at Kent State in the early 1970s. Surely, somewhere in that span, he would have attended a tailgate, right? Apparently not. On Thursday, Saban baffled reporters when he said he has never been tailgating in his life. Not only that, but the Alabama coach couldn’t even think of the word for it and had to ask “what do you call it when you get in the parking lot…” Come on, seriously? Tailgating is one of the biggest draws for football fans, especially at the college level. We know Saban is old school and is buddies with people who think “Snapface” is a social media app, but it’s almost impossible to believe he couldn’t even think of the word for tailgating. Perhaps he has been so busy winning national championships over the years that he has never attended one, but to not even remember what it is? That is truly mind-boggling, even for Saban.
