Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi makes another baffling field-goal call

Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi made headlines earlier in the month for a rather strange coaching decision, and he’s done the same again. With the Panthers surprisingly trailing 14-10 against the Delaware Blue Hens, they found themselves facing a 4th-and-7 at the Delaware 39 with roughly 10 minutes left in the third. Pitt could have gone for it, but Narduzzi opted to send the field-goal team on for a 57-yard try into the open end of Heinz Field. To his credit, Pitt kicker Alex Kessman had the leg, but the attempt missed right. It doesn’t seem like a reasonable decision. A miss gave Delaware excellent field-goal position. Pitt could have played the field position game and punted or, if it was feeling bold, tried to get the first. Instead, Narduzzi made the strangest possible decision. This comes on the heels of an even more baffling decision to kick two weeks ago. It seems like Narduzzi’s decision-making skills could use a little bit of work.
