The Michigan Wolverines announced on Friday that they have cancelled a home-and-home series with UCLA that was planned for the future. The Bruins and Wolverines were supposed to meet in 2022 and 2023, but Michigan paid $1.5 million to cancel the series. Rather than face UCLA on Sept. 10, 2022, Michigan will now host Hawaii. Then on Sept. 2, 2023, the Wolverines will host East Carolina rather than visit the Rose Bowl. The $1.5 million price to cancel was reported by Brett McMurphy. Michigan said in its statement on the matter that they made the move in an effort to give the fans seven home games per season. The 2023 matchup will mark the first time Michigan faces East Carolina.
