Michigan fans throw towels onto field after controversial PI call

Michigan Wolverines fans threw towels onto the field during Saturday night’s game against Notre Dame in protest of a controversial pass-interference call. Up 17-0, the Wolverines were called for pass interference midway through the third quarter. There did not seem to be pass interference on the play. Worse, the call wiped out what would have been an interception. Wolverines fans began to protest as Notre Dame got into the red zone. Fans in the student section started throwing their rally towels onto the field: One towel even landed on Cole Kmet after he caught a touchdown pass for the Irish’s first points of the game. Michigan came back and scored on its next possession to make it 24-7. The Wolverines benefited from two pass-interference calls on the possession.
