The Virginia Tech Hokies need some big plays if they intend to pull off a road upset against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Just before halftime in Saturday’s game, they got one. Down a touchdown already and facing a potential 21-7 halftime deficit, the Hokie defense came up huge. With the ball at the Virginia Tech one-yard line, the Hokies forced a fumble that was recovered by defensive back Divine Deablo and returned 98 yards for a game-tying score. That is, essentially, a 14-point swing on a single play. It also means the Fighting Irish are in a real dogfight at halftime. If the Hokies could pull this one off, it would be their fourth straight win after a 2-2 start to the season, while the Irish are trying to avoid their second consecutive loss.
