The Ohio State Buckeyes watched J.K. Dobbins declare for the NFL draft after his junior season, and Master Teague continued to nurse an injury that would’ve held him out the entire spring and then some. Those two actions put the program’s running back position in limbo. While the Buckeyes still had options at the position, including Steele Chambers, Marcus Crowley, and Miyan Williams, it would’ve been considered one of their weaker areas. That’s why the relief Oklahoma grad transfer Trey Sermon will bring is much-needed. Sermon is a standout. After playing three seasons at Oklahoma, Sermon has one year of eligibility left. Opting to leave the Sooners and letting the world know his intent to transfer about two weeks ago, Sermon will enter Columbus as, arguably, the favorite to lead the Buckeyes backfield. There’s still competition occurring when everything calms down hopefully in the fall, but Ryan Day and the coaching staff has to feel better about the depth and talent they now have in the backfield.
