The Milwaukee Brewers are expected to hire bench coach Pat Murphy as their next manager, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.Murphy was Craig Counsell's bench coach for most of the latter's tenure in Milwaukee. Counsell left as a free agent to join the Chicago Cubs last week after nine years managing his hometown Brewers. This will be Murphy's first full-time managerial job in the majors. His only prior experience at the big-league level came in 2015 when he took over as interim manager of the San Diego Padres after Bud Black was fired. The Padres went 42-54 under Murphy. He joined Counsell's staff the following year. Before entering the professional ranks, Murphy had a decorated NCAA coaching career at Notre Dame and Arizona State.
