Nobody is talking about OT Roger Rosengarten. I do think he goes in the top 100, possibly top 75 when it’s all said and done. He was a part of one of the best Olines in the country. Annnd he’s a RT. I would not be upset if they traded back, got an extra pick or 2 and took Rosengarten to compete with Pip this year and unseat him next year. Then turn around and trade Pip next offseason.

Pip’s trade value isn’t high at all especially with his contract. If they can turn Pip around and he has a great rebound year, they can get more for him next offseason and Rosengarten has a year to develop. If Rosengarten were to be drafted and beat out Pip, then so be it, get what you can, if you can.

The Bolts need SOMEONE to compete with Pip...that's for sure...AND to add depth...

Tua is far-and-away the more 'traditional' leader. He's got the vibe of a tribal leader with warrior intensity. Since 8th grade, whatever team he was on, everybody followed him.

Herb just isn't *that* guy. Which doesn't mean he can't be/isn't great. I just think that the type of temperament Herb has is less predictive of pro success,

And Herb playing through the torn rib cartilage/broken finger stuff? The Dolphins didn't see any of that before the draft, so couldn't have taken that into consideration. Tua, OTOH, had been through a lot of pre-draft adversity that he fought through courageously, and Dolphins' brain trust definitely saw THAT. At the time of the draft, Tua demonstrated more than Herbert had.

Hard to earn playing time, tackling the way Woods does! Errr! DOESN'T!

On those occasions I saw Woods play, he was a complete liability, tackling-wise.

He was bad in the kind of way tacklers are bad when they're AFRAID to tackle. (Hey, I know EYE would be!) I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Woods just doesn't have that love of contact that's required to succeed at the NFL level.

                SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
                • Feisty, tough and plays with a competitive attitude.
                • Finishes and doesn't quit; competitor with a positive attitude and leadership traits that coaches admire.
                • Excellent quick-twitch movement off the snap in pass protection and as a run blocker.
                • Does a nice job on the second level, moving upfield quickly and showing the flexibility and balance to land blocks in space.
                • Hand placement is excellent, and Rosengarten shows a good understanding of angles when climbing upfield
                • Consistently keeps his feet sliding while maintaining power when dealing with speed, often sending speed rushers flying past the pocket
                SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
                • He’ll struggle to get a push at the points of attack against NFL defensive linemen.
                • While Rosengarten displays a decent amount of strength at the point of attack, he lacks the raw power to re-establish the line of scrimmage in short-yardage situations.
                • Plays with poor balance, doing too much reaching and lunging when his initial punch is ineffective. Trying to mirror against quickness will be a problem for him.

he is a great athlete with size nd blazing speed.... it might be interesting to see how he plays with actual real coaching...... most of the chargers defensive players do not tackle well.... its not just the players.... its the soft coaching we have had for several years....

now if he still wiffs tackles in practice (staley never allowed his players to actually tackle in practice)..... then Harbaugh will get rid of him quickly....

I hope you're correct, but tackling is SO fundamental to the game that I question whether Woods can get it figured out now. A DB who can't tackle is as useless as a QB who can't pass.

Yep...so I don't think Woods is the answer at FS in Minter's Cover-3 system...that single high safety is the last line of defense against game-breaking plays, and he MUST be able to tackle at least most of the time...hence my contention we need someone like one of these guys:

Maybe they can also try to convert Woods into a corner...
