New Orleans: next years 1st and not their second as with future picks - -there is the chance it could be the end of the round. So would need next years 1st to make a deal

Minnesota: 2nd and 4th this year plus maybe a pick like a 3rd or 4h

This is a top 5 pick probably for QB -- the price is going up

Yep...Hortiz needs to play hardball, especially if there's still some top QB's sitting there @#5...if he gets a somewhat poor offer, he can always say, "hold on, I've got a call on another line..." (cha-CHING!!!)

It appears more and more likely that four of the first five picks are going to be QBs. JJ McCarthy's draft stock is rising and he may go in the top 5. We are reasonably certain the first three teams on the board (Chicago, Wash, NE) are going to draft QBs. That means:

A team is going to trade into the Cardinals' #4 pick and Marvin Harrison Jr. falls to the Chargers at #5.
The Cards take Marvin Harrison and the Chargers are going to trade down. How far, how many picks and what those picks are remain to be seen.

I would draft a center in the 2nd round. I'm not giving up on Zion and/or Salyer.
McFadden can compete against Salyer. Take a chance on a late round OG for depth...? Fine.
Find a cheap IOL in free agency to compete...? Fine with that, too.

Saying the IOL was inadequate is not a good argument for keeping Pipkins @RT as the starter. They are 2 different arguments.

Why not draft a natural ROT instead of taking a LOT and hoping he can play ROT especially with the #5 pick?

Reid also used only two first-round picks on wide receivers in Philadelphia.

Tyreek Hill wasn't on the Chiefs' roster until 2016. Reid's first-round picks prior to Tyreek's arrival in 2016 were offensive tackle, pass-rusher, cornerback, and then he didn't have a first-round pick in 2016 but used his first selection in the second round on defensive tackle Chris Jones.

In Philadelphia, after drafting Donovan McNabb in the first round in 1999, Reid's first-round picks went like this:

2000: Defensive tackle
2001: Wide receiver
2002: Cornerback
2003: Defensive end
2004: Offensive guard/tackle
2005: Defensive tackle
2006: Defensive tackle
2007: No first-round pick. First pick in second round was a quarterback.
2008: No first-round pick. First pick in second round was a defensive tackle
2009: Wide receiver
2010: Defensive end
2011: Offensive guard
2012: Defensive tackle

Fourteen years in Philly for Reid. Eight of his first-round picks were on linemen. Eleven years so far in Kansas City. Four first-round picks on linemen. Two more picks traded for an offensive tackle (Orlando Brown) and a pass-rusher (Frank Clark). Twenty-five years as a head coach for Reid. Fourteen of his first-round picks have been dedicated to linemen. Seven of the picks on linemen were in the top 15, most notably Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox. The only times he's used top-15 picks on players who aren't/weren't linemen happened when he took quarterbacks--Donovan McNabb and Patrick Mahomes.

This is not a coincidence. After Reid has his quarterback, he focuses on building up both sides of the line as the next priority. Belichick was the same way in New England. I imagine Harbaugh and Hortiz will be the same way. Unless Marvin Harrison is there, I don't think we're taking a wide receiver in the first round. I think we're doing everything we can to trade down and take the best offensive lineman or pass-rusher available.

You're on to something here. Reid was able to turn around KC's o-line in 1 off-season. Took TT lots of mediocre seasons to get 1 year of good o-line play (pass pro not rushing).
