Maybe we see a trade down? Tough to say not knowing who they really like top 3 of their listOriginally posted by Jack Burton View Post
What if who “falls into their lap” is rated as a 30 to 50 player and they have about 30 guys in that range?
Lots of folks are saying there’s only 5 “elite” players in this draft and then there’s a huge drop to around 50 players all rated similarly.

Yeah, I just notice in the last like 7 days that a lot of the podcasts I’ve been listening to with all the so called “experts” and “ pundits” and media guys, that they’ve all kinds conceded finally that this draft really doesn’t have but around 5 to 8 true “elite” players at the top and then they have 30 to 50 guys all ranked in the same tier of solid, immediate starters. And you go from there. I think many of us have been sorta alluding to this for over a month now too..So this is not anything surprising but what we still have is a few guy hoping upon all hope that an “elite” guy falls to 22.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post

And then there’s some of us who have accepted those guys will simply be long gone and are looking at the possible best solutions the Chargers might take to maximizing this draft in their favor. My take has been for months now that they need to concentrate on getting 4-5 players in that 30-50 tier, instead of hoping an “elite” player falls to them. I hope Loveland or TMac falls to them. But I also know it’s a pipe dream.
So I moved on to which players will play Day 1 on the Chargers from that teir I listed above. And that leads to who has the best win rate, the best hands, the lowest drops, the best routes, the physical traits, the best bend, the best interior pass rush, the best pressure rate, the best drop rate…etc, etc

Final Mock
Will show up shortly in my sig
So many players I like. Some of the prospects I have aren't my favorite choices...they just seem to make sense, the way the draft fell, after I made my first s********.
1. Tyler Booker OG Alabama-I hated the workout...but watched the tape again, and you will notice his stock really never suffered much...because he is a damn good football player, and a damn powerful guard...and perfect for our powergap system. Nasty attitude...watch his tape, and you will see him end up on top of his target alot...he wears people out...he beats them up...him and Becton bookending whoever gets the center job will be a force....hell, not only will they truck in the run game...but there will barely be enough room for the center to squeeze between these two guys on passing downs...let alone room for defenders to slip through, lol...but seriously, he isn't just a mauler...very sound in pass pro, anchoring is superb, and reacts and catches stunts and blitzes well. I would love to add some weapon for Herbert, or bolster the Edge group now and for the future...but I think it's possible the Bolts have this guy high on their board. Trying Zion at C tells me they are not happy with the position. The others being mentioned as possible replacements...Bozman, Pip, James...that's contingency...ultimately, the position is ripe for an upgrade. Booker and Becton, along with Slater and Alt, give the Bolts the type of line that enables Harbaugh's offensive philosophy...something that was never fully realized or effective last year.
2. Josaiah Stewart Edge Michigan- I think Harbaugh and Minter are more concerned with the football player, the skills, the athleticism on tape, motor, and overall fit, than they are with a measuring tape. Lacking length is the only thing wrong with this kid. 38 percent pass rush win rate is obnoxious...better than Abdul Carter by far, better than anyone in college last year. He wins. He is relentless. He brings a speed/twitch dimension to our pass rush that we currently lack.
3. Cam Skattebo RB Arizona State- I'm gonna do it. This guy, if he hits his ceiling, is gonna be a pure joy to watch. I love a ton of RBs in this class...Giddens and Martinez come to mind in this area...or the 4th...but I'm gonna stump for this guy. Some worry that his running style will shorten his career...maybe...but he is 220 pounds of ferocious...I think he can take a beating for 4-6 years...and that is in fact what we want our running backs to do...wear down defenses. Needs a little work on pass pro, but we have Harris while he develops his overall pro game... Kid is also a sneaky good receiver out of the backfield. I think it will be fun to have Beastmode 2.0...which is how this kid runs when he gets the ball....and what he hopefully develops into.
4. Mitchell Evans TE Notre Dame- This is a true combo TE in the vein of Hunter Henry...or a Jason Whitten...we all would like a dynamic weapon here...but having 2 good TEs that can catch and block would be huge for this offense...and some bigger TEs have enjoyed success as key playmakers for their QBs...Gronk comes to mind. This kid has strong hands, and knows how to find open spots in the zone, and position himself when manned up, to box out and neutralize his defender, and secure the catch. A chain mover, redzone target...and another competent blocker. But he is also a very good receiver...very productive over 2 seasons...one that was cut short due to injury, and one that was slow in developing as he was coming back...but he still put up solid production...and I think another year removed will show his athletic potential on more routes...honestly looks more fluid and athletic in his routes before his injury than Ty Warren. Very much a Harbaugh TE, IMO
5. Jamaree Caldwell NT Oregon- This is a less lengthy version of Kenneth Grant, who honestly moves better in short area. Hell...it's Poona Ford. Really enjoyed his tape, and the leverage he enjoys with that 330 plus compacted into a 6'2" frame.
6a. Isaac TeSlaa WR Arkansas- Size and speed prospect who is very interesting....very effective when he was actually utilized...as a big slot! I think his outside game can be developed behind Mike Williams, after which he will have versatility to line up anywhere, with the speed and length to be a true downfield threat from the X, as well as perform inside work to help move the chains, and offer redzone options.
6b. Craig Woodson S California- This DB class isn't terribly strong at the top...but alot of good midround prospects will be found late on day 3, due to the great depth at other positions of value. Safeties, in particular, might yield some very nice 6th and 7th round bargains...and with Minter using 3 safeties in a number of packages, great add for depth.
6c. Ahmed Hassanein DE Boise State- Notice I put DE and not Edge...I think he fits a tweener roll, sometimes lining up as a Big Edge, or sometimes inside, depending on the down...a roll player like Morgan Fox. We had him in for a top 30 visit...
6d. Eli Cox C Kentucky- Experience at Center in the SEC, and the frame to get a little bigger...would be a nice developmental backup at all interior oline positions.
7. Kalel Mullings RB Michigan- A converted LB who has only been a RB for a few years, he stole the job from Donovan Edwards...and was far more effective. While he needs more reps to develop as a truly elusive runner, he is great as a short yardage power back, great at pass pro, and would be an instant special teams asset both ways...floor is a career Special teamer...the 7th is where we pick these guys.

I’d bet a taco platter that Joe has a group of 20-30 players rated higher than his next group of 20 and so on … in fact I’d bet he has smaller and more cluster groupings of “about the same” tiers. While I agree that elite HOF/AP talent at the top looks thin (we never really know, some “elite” years just have more busts), none of us are having trouble distinguishing clusters between first 15 or 30 and separate cluster between 35 and 50.Originally posted by Jack Burton View Post

Nobody rates Arroyo equal to Loveland
Nobody rates Neal equal to Hampton or Henderson
etc etc … and on it goes. a single 50-player tier is over-stated but we get what they mean - there is less difference between the first several tiers than usual.
As for us - a good solid day 1 starter is normally the appropriate hope at 22 anyway, so this year’s “equality” really harms the worst teams at the top of the draft than us.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

I picked Booker as the guy who would fall into the 2nd round because of his lack of athleticism and most teams want more versatility from their guards. I'm trying to convince myself that we're trading up in the second round for Booker but honestly, he's not going to be there. He's a 10 plus year starter for a championship quality OL. I like Zabel a tick better because of his versatility but I'm going to be so pumped if we commit to Booker at 22. LFG!!!
I think the same for Stewart, I think he'll fall into the 3rd but same sentiment.

Agree, i have 8 guys in my first round cluster but the last couple id prefer with a lil trade down. I also love the idea of getting extra picks but if Loveland is there at 22, thats my pick. If not id maybe tradse down. Dont think Harmon is getting to us and not sure id take Grant there. Id be a bit surprised if we picked Booker but then not really.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

Im not saying they don’t have clusters. Im saying those clusters aren’t like other drafts this time. It’s not like last year. That was a very good draft with everything you could want from top to bottom. Hypothetically of course but you see some results already. Im saying that if you aren’t in the cluster of HOF/AP guys, then I think the best plan of attack is to get as much in the immediate next tier as you can in the Chargers situation specifically. I wouldn’t suggest that for just any team in this draft. Like BUF for example. They have different issues and their roster is built out.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

I still see a ton of “Loveland is falling to us and now he’s got red flags…” lol
He’s got red flags but take him at 22, anyways, right? lol.
Oh, the final days before the draft the real tabloid stuff starts floating around…

That’s where I’m at. If they take Grant, fine they know him. But I’d lean towards a trade down and get those extra picks in the same cluster I think Grant is in anyways and get more value out of the draft.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post

I love the Caldwell pick. And the Poona Ford comp is perfect. It’s why I don’t think they need to take Grant at 22 when you can just get a Caldwell or a Norman-Lott or a Ty Hamilton or a CJ West later and add more value via a trade down. I like all the picks from him down. But the top of that draft is exactly why I think they need to trade down if they can and if they can’t, this is where they may just end up.Originally posted by Lone Bolt View Post
