NFL Gambling: Double Standard for NFL to Approve Betting, but to Suspend Players?

Anyone noticed those lame commercials with Ryan Fitzpatrick for DraftKings? Isn't it a double standard for the NFL to suspend players like Calvin Ridley or Josh Shaw for betting on NFL games, while officially approving gambling websites like these?:

The National Football League today announced it has reached agreements with FOX Bet, BetMGM, PointsBet, and WynnBET to become Approved Sportsbook Operators for the 2021 NFL season. These agreements make all four operators eligible to purchase NFL in-game

Pete Roselle must be rolling over in his grave. He tried hard to keep the NFL far away from the gambling industry. I thought about this when the league approved the raiders move to Vegas. Sooner or later there's going to be scandal come from this.

I don't have the links at hand, but the League is making close to $1 billion dollars with its "official gambling partnership licenses". If anyone presses me perhaps I can find the news links. Hey, what's a mere billion?

Let's clarify: That's what the league is profiting via gambling "officially." Beyond that...who can say?

The league's partners do provide a handy 800-xxx-yyyy phone number one can call if tempted towards excessive gambling habits. We can all be sure that their "consultants" faithfully steer folks to more prudent financial decisions. No wolves in sheep's clothing there, we can be sure!

I'd like to think so. But from its very origins the league, and numerous team owners have had heavy ties to the mob and (and it's time) illegal gambling.

There have always been many money opportunities for owners beyond just selling tickets and merchandise.

The NFL partnership with that gambling site is despicable. Ever hear a radio commercial from them? At the end of the ad, there’s like, another 30 seconds of numerous state’s phone numbers for gambling addiction help. Pitiful.

Yep...kind of like the beer commercials that say, at the end, "and remember, drink responsibly!"
            (Yeah, right...)

I'd like to weigh in with a story that highlights how things aren't always what you think they are.

Basically, a guy on the inside (Jaguars employee) stole like $22 million dollars from the club and lost most of it betting on Fanduel.

If the NFL is rigged, how in hell is he not privy to this?

I thought it was bad at first also but then realized that me betting on a football game won't change the outcome. Plus my ten dollars is not going to hurt if I lose. But a player, ref, coach, etc could change the outcome. So there is a big big difference.

Gambling is a huge tax revenue for states. Let's hope they use the funds for constructive purposes.

Now Goodell says, "please, players, no gambling on the SB!"
                      (yeah, right)
