RIP to the GM who oversaw the greatest era in Padres history. Larry Lucchino had the vision to know Kevin Towers would make a great GM, and he was proven right. Towers had the ability to pick up acquisitions that always seemed to help, mostly from the scrap heap. He especially excelled at picking up relievers, seems like the Padres always had an abundance of arms in the pen to get them to Hoffy. RIP Mr. Towers.

Towers would have won a WS or two had he been allowed to spend any money. They had a great team with McGriff, Kevin Mitchell, Sheffield and Gwynn .....for a little while anyways.
            RIP Kevin Towers

Towers assembled some great teams out of a limited budget but he had nothing to do with acquiring those guys and in fact only Gwynn was on the team when Towers took over. Mitchell lasted half a season with the Pads in 1987 before being traded to SF.
