    2013 KC versus 2014 Chargers

In 2013 KC started out 8-0 and they were be prompt as the team to beat, In 2014 the Chargers are getting noticed at 5-1 but media starting to point out that we beat last three opponents with a combined record of 1-16 going against two rookie QB and a 2nd year QB.

    Funny how media works

2013 when KC went 8-0 they faced 5 opponents in a row with suspect and backup QB; Tennessee (Backup Fitzpatrick), Oakland (Tyrelle Pryor 2nd year), Houston (3rd string Case Keenum), Cleveland (3rd string Jason Campbell), Buffalo (3rd String Jeff Tuel) KC continue to get props for good Defense and turnovers

Say what you will but the big difference with 2014 Chargers compared to 2013 KC

    1. KC played close in most all those games mention above against less than average QBs, although we played close against Oakland we dominated the other opponents
    2. Philip River<<<<<Alex Smith in 2013 and 2014 and for career
    3. 2013 KC wheels fail off the wagon when injuries hit second half of the season. 2014 Chargers have had to play 4 different Centers, we have played without s 1st team starter s on D parts or all games ILB Teo, OLB Ingram, CBs Flowers and Wright.

And if we lose some games down the stretch as our competition gets harder, people will say the same things about us. But it's not surprising that playing better teams makes it harder to win. I heard somewhere a few years ago when Ben won his 2nd Superbowl that Pittsburgh was 22-21 against teams with a winning records in those during the span between the Steelers championships.

Cmon there's a huge difference. To start with, the Chargers are built on Offense. KC last year was all about defense and a run game.

We are still an offensive juggernaut and added defense. If the defense can keep performing at an above average level, we will keep winning games. So far no one has really been able to stop the Chargers offense besides themselves + injuries. We are a botched snap away from being 5-0.

As long as we maintain some semblance of a run game, the offense will continue to thrive. The defense hopefully can get healthy in the next few weeks to continue to limit opponents to manageable score totals.

As long as Rivers is upright though, this team will keep on scoring on anyone.

View the 2020 NFL season full splits for Philip Rivers of the Indianapolis Colts on ESPN. Includes full stats per opponent, and home and away games.

Look at Rivers splits, he has a 136.1 QB rating overall on 3rd (and 4th) downs. If you go by down and distance, his rating is 107.3 for 1 or 2 yds to go, 115.6 for 3 to 8 yards to go, and 158.3 for 9+ yards to go. Right now, Rivers is just about impossible to stop on 3rd downs. Fans can bitch about us playing weak QB, but the fact is that unless some team finds a way to disrupt Rivers, we are going to keep having a huge amount of success and keep other teams offenses off the field, so we control the pace and tempo of the game.

I hope Kansas City doesn't decide to play its 2013 backups this week. Those motherfuckers were tough.

Just get into the playoffs, nothing else counts much. Beating Den and getting a first round bye is a plus.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Plenty of people pointed out KCs success against bad QBs early last year.

Plus they had that new coaching smell.

                    (1) Not only have we dominated most of the weak teams we've beat, we've also beaten the reigning world champs fairly convincingly.

                    (2) Don't you mean Rivers >>>>>> Smith (i.e., Rivers way greater than Smith)?

                    (3) Yeah, anyone crying about the record of our opponents should check out the roster we're fielding. Just think how scary-good we'll be when we have most of our horses back and the backups will have solid starting experience.
