Yes, we win the game if we score a TD there and KC can't answer, but we also needed to eat clock time so KC had no time to respond. We don't need Norv-like 3 runs up the middle to set up a FG, but intelligent, safe, high percentage plays that keep the clock going, like screens, draws, and bubble screens. We needed plays that got 5-7 yards each and we march in for a TD.

But the play calling was particularly bad IMHO on that drive (I wasn't happy with play calling in the 2nd half, where were the adjustments???), respective to the time. We throw deep on a low percentage 2nd and long play to Floyd in the end zone just before the FG? Why, even if you score a TD you give KC the ball with plenty of time. If you miss (like we did), we gave KC more time. I knew if the Chargers didn't convert and kick the FG after the miss to Floyd, KC was going to win. They had 2:33 left and we hadn't done much to stop them all 2nd half.

Bad 4 minute situational game calling and game management IMHO. Play for the win, not the tie even if you're at home.
I disagree. We took the ball at our own 12 yard line with 5:39 left and down 3 points. IMO, we had to go fairly quickly until we were in FG range because if they had stopped us short of that, we actually needed to conserve time to get the ball back or go for it on 4th down and risk giving KC very favorable field position.

As soon as we got into FG range, we did attempt a running play, which got shut down for -1 yards. That put us in a passing situation. Floyd is our best deep option. His size, speed, catch radius and good hands always give us a shot on a deep ball to him even if covered. I don't like deep balls to Royal even though we have hit on a couple of them this year--small, average hands, tiny catch radius.

I did not care for the crossing pattern to Allen because he is not likely to run away from anyone even though he is likely to get open. I would have preferred Royal on that play, but an even better option would have been to have thrown past the sticks with Oliver as an elusive check down option. Still, the other team's players are paid also and it may have been that Rivers went short because everything beyond the sticks was covered.

Realistically, the clock stopped on just one play after we got into FG range. I am not sure there is much to complain about there.

The defense had them at their own 8 yard line on the final drive. At that point I was happy that there was still time on the clock. I was not thinking about us losing, but rather about us winning after we stopped KC deep in their own end and got the ball back around our own 40 with nearly two minutes left in the game. But the defense completely blew the last drive. They couldn't even get the Chiefs into a third down situation until the play before the game deciding FG.

McCoy is usually a sound game clock manager. I disagreed with his use of a timeout to ice the kicker because that could have come back to bite us in theory, but it ended up not making any difference. But aside form that minor gripe, I do not really have too much to complain about in terms of his clock management. It is noticeably better than Norv's ever was.

No it's Andy Reid and it's not even close...

Norvs personal game clock had Roman numerals, that was the problem...

Who doesn't like a good concussion protocol once in a while?

If the league is serious about concussions, maybe such situations should be fine-able? I don't know if Charles' absence would have hurt the Chiefs (Knile Davis was playing very well), but Flowers' absence definitely hurt the Chargers.

Worse than Andy Reid or Dennis Green? Objectivity?

All are on the clock management Mt. Rushmore. Reid is the worst at clock management and Norv is the worst at HC.

2.8 yards per rush. Not too bad.

That 23 yard garbage run improved his average a ton. He was 12 rushes for 13 yards before that.

Shhh. I'm trying to twist the stats to make it not seem so bad

LOL. Looking at the box score, we had 15 carries for 61 yards - that's a 4.1 average!
