Wrote this up awhile ago, but never posted, so my apologies for anything out of date/antiquated, as have attempted to update it some, albeit am not as up on things as have been in the past.
QB * Tyrod Taylor, Justin Herbert, Easton Stick * fairly unspectacular bunch atm. Taylor is unlikely to throw into double coverage w/Williams, and if and when he does, how many INTs would it take to put an end to that notion ?? and know many of you here are looking forward to having running/mobile QBs, and how does a QB on the move do for Keenan’s timing routes ?? who outta these three QBs is gonna be able to help take Joe Reed’s game to another level ?? does Taylor get in rhythm w/HH ?? or does the run game take precedence w/dump offs outta the backfield and in the flats ??
And don’t think Herbert should see the field, albeit think it’s gonna be tempting as gotta think Williams would benefit from Herbert @the helm, albeit Tyrod is known for his longball as well. not sure Herbert won’t have timing/anticipation issues of his own, and wonder if he’ll have the composure/time to wait on Williams and/or others running their routes ?? will add that can’t help but be impressed w/Herbert’s development to date, especially re: his intangibles…. do think that holding him back is the better route, as the more we can do to build his confidence, the better.
And know a lot of us were impressed w/Stick taking off on foot into the second level during last year’s preseason, but can’t imagine those of us paying attention are ready to give his NFL passing game/grade the benefit of the doubt just yet. Speaking for myself, would be remiss to pass on a Trey Lance next offseason, or the like that might rise in the draft, if we are to pick early again, as think that if we are going w/a new RPO model, which calls for a mobile/running QB, that we would do well to move in the direction of the RB position, and be more stocked than not there, as we were overly spoiled by Phil’s durability/longetivity @QB.
