Rivers Vs Rams

The second half offense is what gives me some hope for the rest of the season. Take what the offense is giving you and beat them. Rivers and Reich had gotten a bit too long ball heavy and defenses were adjusting for that. We simply weren't taking the easy underneath stuff that was there for the taking. That needs to be the bread and butter of this offense. Mix in some deeps passes occasionally. So much short passing will force the defense to stop run blitzing and cover the short passing lanes. It will open everything up. Of course that also assumes that the O line can open some holes vs. the front 4.

Look for the running game to take a more prominent role down the stretch the way it did last year. Reich/Rivers called a great game against an aggressive defense and I would bet we see more of the same against some of the defenses left on our schedule.
The question is can it be as effective as it was yesterday and late last season....I'll ride the wave...where it takes me.

we had 120 yds rushing last week (70 by RM) and Mathews had over 100 yesterday in limited action so that looks like an upswing to me. I read a blurb McCoy was deliberately limiting Mathews workload as he worked his way back into game shape. I'm liking the idea of leaving Watt at center now and replacing Troutman with Ohrn when he's ready to play again. Not sure if he'll stay healthier at RG though, but he's GOT to be an upgrade over Porkchops whenever he's in the lineup.Originally posted by Fleet View PostWe have got to get this running game going. We are 14th in the league in attempts and 32nd in yards per attempt. Lets hope Mathews can fix this problem. As it will greatly help Rivers.Life is too short to drink cheap beer

Definitely on the upswing. But overall this season we are not running the ball that well. Partly due to Mathews injury and losing Woody but probably due more to the interior OL. Id really like to get this OL turned into a top 10 group in the league. This off season we need to get to work. Pull a Dallas and continue to draft OL high. Im still open to moving Fluker to OG. I always thought he would be at his best there. Maybe draft another OT or even bring one in with the money we will have next year. Really hope Watt turns out to be a gem.Originally posted by SDfan View Postwe had 120 yds rushing last week (70 by RM) and Mathews had over 100 yesterday in limited action so that looks like an upswing to me. With the money the FO has available this offseason I would like to see them make a Goff like signing and take the BAA with their first round pick. Good guards can be had at a decent price. Leave Watt at C, sign Dunlap so he can remain at LT.Originally posted by Fleet View PostDefinitely on the upswing. But overall this season we are not running the ball that well. We will be able to do some things. By the way Andy Katoa and Sean Duffy are recruiting my son to play Rugby at UA. ASU has come knocking as well. He has his heart set on Saint Marys though.Originally posted by Rugger05 View PostWith the money the FO has available this offseason I would like to see them make a Goff like signing and take the BAA with their first round pick. Nice. As much as I hate UA they do have a very good rugby program. ASU did sign a partnership with a professional rugby club in Australia.Originally posted by Fleet View PostWe will be able to do some things. Has he heard from Cal yet?

He dosnt want to go there. Freshman and Sophomores rarely play with Clarks loyalty to Juniors and Seniors. And most freshmen dont get to travel with the team. Saint Marys tours in Europe. Thats really what he wants to do.Originally posted by Rugger05 View PostNice. As much as I hate UA they do have a very good rugby program. Even if Mathews has a monster 2nd half of the year I still wouldn't re-sign him. The kind of money he would command is sorely needed elsewhere, especially when you can find great value in the mid-rounds of the draft if you're looking for a RB. Plus we have too many guys sharing the workload anyways, it would be beyond ridiculous to pay Mathews the kind of money I expect he would command as a free agent. How many touches a game does he even average?
This is nothing against Mathews. Despite the early fumbling issues and durability, I think he has turned into a fine NFL player.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

I'm no Oline expert but I do have 1 problem with this. I just don't see Fluker having the quickness to pull as a guard. Straight ahead he's a bulldozer, but to ask him to pull around the edge he may be too slow. Hell, folks complain about his lead feet at tackle, isn't that still a big concern at OG?Originally posted by Fleet View PostDefinitely on the upswing.
