Another former referee, Gerry Austin, said on ESPN this morning that it was incidental contact, because the Lion receiver was not going into the ball. Of course, he couldn't instantaneously change direction with his momentum, so I think its a bogus argument. The defender impeded the receiver's ability to make a catch, contested or not, and with contact, so in my view it was DPI. My problem with the call is that there was no explanation why it wasn't DPI, while seeing plays with less contact being confirmed as DPI.
