His additions to the passing game are well known, but almost all of the modern running game are due to the influences he had prior to going to SDSU. John Robinson and the whole I formation crowd, along with the zone running thing is all a result of things he did. Modern football would look nothing like it does today without his influences. Sid Gillman and Bill Walsh got a lot of stuff from Coryell, and both of them tole the rest from Clark Shaunessy (Bears and Stanford), so mot of what they did was just refining what others did.
