    OT: RIP Ernie Banks

Right up there with Stan Musial and Lou Gehrig, IMO, for being, as one writer put it, "a one-of-a-kind person that defined everything that's good about sports".

As an All American Baseball Player in high school i can say he was a huge role model for me. The way he played the game.

One of my favorite players growing up. Saw him play when I was a kid. His son Joey was a driver on our show a few years ago and I was always asking how his dad was doing. Mr Cub had a great life. RIP.

Ernie Banks was my greatest childhood hero. His passing leaves me thinking back on those days with deep sadness. Welcome to eternity, Ernie, let's play two.

Centella's remarks brought back to mind what a great era that was in baseball. Ernie Banks, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Yogi Berra, Don Drysdale, Stan Musial, Duke Snyder and Sandy Koufax just to name a few. IMO, it was the best era ever. RIP Mr. Cub.

Totally agree. It was the opposite of dillution, Pre-expansion with everyone allowed to play. Biggest talent pool per team in any MLB era.

NO! Why the hell would you even ask?

If meant as a joke it missed the mark. Even players of his own era considered cobb to be very bad news, a thoroughly miserable human being.

                        Missed this thread earlier.

Rest Well, Ernie. Never got to see you play, but I am a Cubs fan, and always loved listening to you when interviewed.
