There is no denying Stevie Johnson was in demand.
After being released by the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, the playmaking wideout immediately became a hot commodity. Still, there was a reason he visited the Chargers on Friday as both the team and player were highly interested in one another. Johnson subsequently took his time to make a decision, but in his heart, he knew there was only one choice.
“I’m very excited to join the Chargers,” he said shortly after officially agreeing to terms on a three-year deal. “This is a squad that I wanted to play for, and we got things done. I’m proud to be a part of the family. It was good (to hear from them) because like I said, this was a team I wanted to play for. When I got the word they were interested in me, they shot up to my number one choice. The visit only confirmed things, and here we are now.”
The Chargers are getting a proven difference maker who has shined over seven seasons, catching 336 passes for 4,267 yards and 31 touchdowns. While there are many reasons why the Bolts were his top choice, the presence of Philip Rivers proved paramount.
“He is one of the quarterbacks I always wanted to play with,” Johnson explained. “I’m happy to be here and happy to work with him….My strength is just getting open. I’m going to be open for (Philip). I’m a security blanket.”
Johnson was also intrigued to join the likes of Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates among others as top weapons for number 17.
“I see myself fitting in the same way they fit in,” he said. “They come to make plays and I come to make plays, too.”
Just like Orlando Franklin and Jacoby Jones stated, another reason the Bolts were at the top of his list was the presence of Mike McCoy. Johnson came away impressed by the head coach after meeting him, and is also a fan of Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich.
“Just from the visit, everything seemed smooth (with them),” he said. “They seem open and versatile to letting players play and getting things done. They were adamant about communication, and that is something that everybody can excel at when you communicate and are able to be versatile. So I was happy to hear everything they said and see the things that they’ve done. It’s good to be a part of it.”
While there were many reasons he wanted to come to San Diego, now that he’s officially a Charger, Johnson wants the fans in particular to know one thing.
“I’m coming to handle business and have fun!”

There ya go. If Colin Kaepernick can't find an open WR, then nobody can. #cutsteviePrediction:
Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

As a man of few words, I thought I'd get a little verbose here and say "Solid."Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.
