both Rivers and the Chargers were quick to address the rumors of whether or not he was injured and the injury affecting his play, but not a whole lot regarding what will happen with rivers and or the team. dishonest answer or not, an ongoing rumor was being addressed, but all rumors about Rivers now is all mum. that's a cause for concern for most people whether you like it or not.

Again, what is he not being straight about? He was very up front that he wasn't going to sign a contract extension this off season and hasn't. Because this is leading to speculation about what the team will and should do, how is that relevant to him being honest on the topic?

has anyone considered that maybe Rivers doesn't want the team tying up most their available $ signing him to a big new deal right now-and then have nothing left to sign other important pieces that puts a stronger team around him? He said he wants to wait and see how things shape up and play out this year before deciding anything. His salary and cap hit is already accounted for and the team has more $ to spend this year than they have in a long time, so why distract from that with his contract situation before they HAVE to? Weddle is also in his final year of his deal and just as important to the defense as Rivers is to the offense, but there is none of the controversy surrounding him getting a new deal done when the timing is right. I think most fans are just too impatient on this and get more obsessed with resolving it the longer it goes on in the media and the idiot talking heads keep speculating.

In the end I think we'll find the over the top interest in Mariotta was a very successful smokescreen to disguise the fact the Chargers REALLY want somebody else and are playing up the Rivers angle hoping to keep their true target a secret until after the draft.

Ghelkin was on the radio today and said after the draft they will start working on contract extensions. Weddle and Rivers are extremely close, so it will be interesting to see how he responds if Rivers leaves.

I thought about the smokescreen scenario, but doesn't seem plausible. Bolts pick 17th, not 3rd or 5th, how does Mariotta help in any smokescreen scenario? Not rhetorical, any ideas?

It could be a good old fashion smoke screen. It also adds value to the second pick helping Tenn get better value for it. I do not think it happens without Tenn overpaying for Rivers.
              Go Rivers!

Under this scenario, Rivers is gone, correct?

It will be interesting to see what a trade would entail. According to some reports I heard, the Titans would want Rivers plus one of our picks. According to others, the Chargers would want the #2 pick plus more picks. Of course, it's all moot if the Bucs take Mariota

I hope the Bucks do pick Marriota, that would be a great start to the draft...

Are there any differences/similarities between what talent evaluators see in Marriota and what they saw in Russell Wilson when he came out of college? Wilson went in the 2nd or 3rd round, correct? I don't want to see Rivers go AT ALL, but just trying to find a silver lining if the FO is targeting Marriota - because I need convincing that he's a franchise QB.
Well.. you can at least see the croutons in the dark.

The biggest difference is Mariota isnt 5'11". He is 6'4". Russell went in the 3rd round. To me it looks like Wilson has a stronger arm.
