They also played in vastly different offensive schemes.

Would that be the consensus if both were coming out of college in the same year?
Well.. you can at least see the croutons in the dark.

Two things I haven't seen a good answer to yet:

1). "We'll just franchise Rivers." And then what? Eat a ~$20 mil cap figure that hurts our ability to continue to sign other players AND have to deal with a disgruntled star player. This is NOT a viable option at all IMO.

2). Who's to say that Rivers just doesn't up and retire if he doesn't like his options?

I see a lot of ppl burying their heads in the sand on this issue. Unfortunately the LA thing has now put this problem center stage. You don't just fly up with your staff to evaluate a guy to do your "due diligence."

Mariota may not be the answer, but if this is the best value you'll get for Rivers AND you can get a chance at a good young QB prospect.....then you have to think about it. Otherwise we are stuck with the notion of paying out the nose to keep the guy and it's a huge distraction on top of everything.

Honestly, Mariota + Gordon/Gurley would not be the end of the world.

Big Ben set the market rate for QB contracts and is averaging $20 million a year for the next 5 years (could add more with incentives) so that bar has been set. But I agree people are thinking with their hearts and not their heads about both Rivers and the LA market.

No we don't. We suspect it to be true but since the guy hasn't even been drafted yet it's kind of hard to make that definitive of a proclamation.

You know, nobody likes these kind of rumors more than I do. Hell, I've had Rivers traded at least twice before this. But unlike many of you, who have recently begun to think that this rumor has some merit, I've actually started leaning the opposite way of late: I really don't think Rivers is going anywhere.

I can just see the post-Draft interview with TT, taking questions about all the rumors that Rivers was on the block. I can see TT smiling, shaking his head, wondering aloud "where all this stuff comes from". Saying, quite convincingly, that he "never, for one second, intended to trade Rivers". I hear him playing down the pre-Draft visit with Mariota as just "interested deflection". Even winking as he reminds us that April is "Liar's Month".

Yup. Rivers is here in '15, just like the Chargers are here in '15.

                  Talk to me next year.

Yet another analysis of "The Trade". I would be pissed if the Chargers did what this guy thinks is fair trade value:

The Chargers would like need to send something back to Tennessee in addition to Rivers. They probably wouldn't want to include their own 1st-round pick (#17 overall), but wouldn't be out of the question for San Diego to give up the 48th overall selection. Add a conditional late-round pick if the Chargers win a certain number of games with Mariota and you get a reasonable estimate of Rivers' trade value.
So we have a #2 and #17, then don't draft again until pick #83? Also, we have no 4th-round pick. Two 1st-round picks and a 3rd-round pick. And no Rivers. BAD trade.

I wouldn't trade Wilson for Mariota.

Titan fans are under the impression that if we trade Rivers to the Titans, That we will also be giving them our #17 pick .....LoLoLOLOLoL

So in a nutshell were giving them Rivers so we could swap picks....How could any of that make sense ? That's straight up being Delusional. Give up an Elite QB just to move up to the #2 slot and pick up a QB that is missing some franchise fundementals

At this point I wouldn't either.
