I don't see that same formula benefitting Rivers this year, and Rivers in 9 years hasn't shown he can will us to the Super Bowl like maybe Brady or Manning could. I don't think you can even say he really elevates the play of those around him consistently. Nobody is forgetting its a team sport. Pitfalls: You can't rule out Rivers retiring if the team does indeed declare intentions to move- and we get NOTHING. His back is likely well enough to start this season, but the injury is degenerative and gets worse with age. It can never be fully repaired like an ACL or broken bone- it can only be managed for pain tolerance and further injury. He could VERY easily have it become a problem this year and in the future. He's flat out not worth the $100 Mil contract Big Ben just got- not even a sniff of a Super Bowl in 9 years and some very off years mixed in there. If that's the bench mark, it would not make good business sense to reward him with that- only exception being if he really did lead and will this team to a Super Bowl win this year despite the inevitable injuries and other rough patches. Just my analysis and I could be wrong, but his history seems to point to my conclusions.
Shanahan hasnt done a fucking thing since Elway retired and once he was more in charge of personel, he stunk at drafting too. Shanahan imo isnt a key to what Elway did. They got lucky with a RB which gave them a great running game and that was the difference.
Manning has been to two SBs. Won one and got blown oout in another. He has had many one and dones so thouogh he is a great QB, he is pretty much a choker in the playoffs.
How do you know anything about Rivers back? He didnt need surgery so without a Dr coming out and saying he has a degerative problem, ....which i dont know if one has, but i havent seen it, how do you know? Asside from that he should be fine. If there has been more about it, do tell.
I just dont see anything you have said that should say we cant win a SB with Rivers. I dont see why we cant do the things personel wise we will do with Mariota as our QB as opposed to Rivers. Rivers is by far and away a better QB than Mariota.
Im pretty sure our Front office has a much better grasp on this situtaion and Rivers back than you, i or anyone else in here who is speculating. If his back is what you make it out to be, they wouldnt be dumb enough to want to offer him a extention that would make him retire a Bolt.Last edited by Boltjolt; 04-19-2015, 02:49 PM.

Here are the facts as I see them.
Rivers is a straight shooter, he is a family guy with seven kids, he doesn't swear, he doesn't lie and he doesn't say stuff to gain leverage.
Rivers likes San Diego and feels it's a good place to raise his kids while pursuing his football career.
Rivers doesn't like LA and doesn't feel it's a good place to raise his kids.
If the Chargers get a new stadium in San Diego and make REAL efforts to improve the club he will stay.
If the Chargers head to LA rivers will head out of town, because that is what is best for his family. He will not expose his family to that fake and phony sewer hole.
Florio and all those other NFL writers are not used to dealing with a straight shooter like Rivers, and our ascribing motives and positions that just aren't there.
Rivers is telling it to you straight up.Last edited by Big Dog; 04-19-2015, 02:43 PM.
