I don't think you can even say he really elevates the play of those around him consistently. Nobody is forgetting its a team sport. Pitfalls: You can't rule out Rivers retiring if the team does indeed declare intentions to move- and we get NOTHING. His back is likely well enough to start this season, but the injury is degenerative and gets worse with age. It can never be fully repaired like an ACL or broken bone- it can only be managed for pain tolerance and further injury. He could VERY easily have it become a problem this year and in the future. He's flat out not worth the $100 Mil contract Big Ben just got- not even a sniff of a Super Bowl in 9 years and some very off years mixed in there. If that's the bench mark, it would not make good business sense to reward him with that- only exception being if he really did lead and will this team to a Super Bowl win this year despite the inevitable injuries and other rough patches. Just my analysis and I could be wrong, but his history seems to point to my conclusions.
Rivers did an awesome job in the 2006 playoff game Vs. The Patriots. Knuckle head penalties, Dropped passes and a dropped INT lost that game for us....Otherwise Rivers and our franchise would have probably had a ring that season. Shitty luck with injuries fucked over our good chances. It wasn't Rivers nt leading the charge.
Here's a serious question to you SDfan....Are you a Charger fan and have you watched Charger games since Rivers came aboard ?? because it doesn't sound like you've been watching the same career we've been watching.. And I'm not being a Homer, I'm talking as a football fanLast edited by Sec-E4; 04-19-2015, 11:34 PM.

So if the trade is Rivers and 17 for 2, you are trading 3 years of top QB play from a guy who never misses a snap for 5 years of a crap shoot with a young QB just to move up 15 spots. I would be more concerned about the next 3 years before I worry about the 2 after that.Last edited by BlazingBolt; 04-20-2015, 10:22 AM.migrated from chargerfans.net then the thenflforum.com then here

Shanahan was only successful with Elway as QB.Prediction:
Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

Rivers is a straight shooter, he is a family guy with seven kids, he doesn't swear, he doesn't lie and he doesn't say stuff to gain leverage.
Rivers likes San Diego and feels it's a good place to raise his kids while pursuing his football career.
Rivers doesn't like LA and doesn't feel it's a good place to raise his kids.
If the Chargers get a new stadium in San Diego and make REAL efforts to improve the club he will stay.
If the Chargers head to LA rivers will head out of town, because that is what is best for his family. He will not expose his family to that fake and phony sewer hole.
Florio and all those other NFL writers are not used to dealing with a straight shooter like Rivers, and our ascribing motives and positions that just aren't there.
Rivers is telling it to you straight up.Go Rivers!
