The 2013 Chargers everything defence thread!

OK so I wanted to start a thread on our Defence. We have been talking about it in other threads in smatterings... 9th ranked defence being dismantled ect. Well A brief look at the past and then then its all about this year.

4 & 29 one last time then no looking back.

Lets breat this down and look at how our younger more athletic personel will not make this kind of boneheaded play.

This single play epitomizes the Norv era.

What a disaster. Poor angles taken by the DB's, Philips quitting on the play, and a debatable offensive penalty.

Fat chance, this forum is as bad as the Real Housewives series
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

You shouldn't tell the public you watch that show...

I see the defense being in the 8-12 ranked category (in points and yards). There is a good mixture of youth (Liuget, Butler, Reyes, Thomas, Wright, Teo) and savvy veterans (Johnson, Freeney, Weddle, Cox). The major concern is the health of the starting 11 because at almost every position there is a big drop off after the starter.

The positives are several of the old slow veterans are gone (Jammer, Phillips, Spikes, Bigby). Hopefully Freeney brings quality leadership that Phillips never provided and Butler continues towards becoming a star in the middle.

I think Pagano needs to be more aggressive in his defensive play calling and the CB's need to play less zone coverages this year. Hopefully they won't implode this season when games have to be won by the defense, especially on the last possession of the game.
              1) Jason Verrett (CB) TCU
              2) Demarcus Lawrence (OLB) Boise St
              3) Will Sutton (DT) Arizona St
              4) Jarvis Landry (WR) LSU
              5) John Urschel (OC) Penn St
              6) Shamar Stephen (DT) UConn
              7) Brock Coyle (ILB) Montana

If the first preseason game is any indication, we will be pressing a lot more this season.

I dont know how we will fare.....i think our starters are good but a few injuries may challenge our D. I like the improved speed and presumed agressiveness with the new team. Just have to wait and see.

Play in the opponents back field and your chances of winning increase.

Our secret weapon: Have Shareece Wright "bump knees" with the #1 receiver on the other team early in the game.
