Simple question, does he have a shot. With the Polamalu retirement makes you think. He is not the big playmaker Polamalu has beenbut he also didn't give up the amount of big plays Troy did. At this point I think no way but four more solid years and there is a possible argument that could be made. Curious what others think.

Yeah, I am probably over optimistic when it comes to Weddle. Gates is a sure thing, Rivers pretty good chance if he does not require or quit on his team. Weddle would need the Chargers to win a championship with him being the center of a great D. Has not happened yet. Can always hope

It's not so much his production. His production is as good as any S these days. The big problem is that he needs to get more prime time exposure to showcase himself. A couple years ago, people were talking about him as the next great S after Reed and Troy. Well, Troy and Reed are only just out of the NFL and now there is a new group of young S coming into the league. Weddle isn't any worse then any of them, but when guys like Earl have played in 2 SB and are surrounded by a lot o other talent, it's hard to get Weddle's name in edgewise. Ironically, the the guy who is probably the 2nd best S in football is Harrison Smith and he gets no mention most of the time too.
Finally having a pass rush wouldn't hurt his chances either. It is not a coincident that Weddle had 7 int (and was tied for the league lead), and that the last time a SD pass rusher had double digit sacks.

I'd rather be a Super Bowl winning MVP than a Hall of Famer. The SAN DIEGO Chargers better make that happen now. With the threats of a move growing larger, my hopes of ever cheering for a champion are taking a shit.
That being said - Weddle is great.

If he is a SB MVP, that would probably be enough to get him into the HOF, given teh fact that he has played at a very, very high level for the last few years, provided he can keep doing it a few more.
