    Post YOUR Chargers mock draft

    1st - RB - Melvin Gordon
This offense has alot of chain movers but really lacks big play guys, Gordon should help.

    2nd - OT - Donovan Smith
Could probably step right in at RG and be solid.

    3rd - OLB - Hau'oli Kikaha
Excellent pass rusher, takes over Freeney's role.

    4th - WR - Dezmin Lewis
Good hands, speed, routes and size (6'4 215).

    5th - NT - Letterius Walton
Needs a year behind Carrethers and Lissemore but at 6'5 320 he's worth the wait.

    6th - TE - Nick Boyle
He replaces John Phillips. Which makes it a great pick!

That would be a nice draft.

Koundijo I hate....not kikaha. I think he is good value in the third given his ability to rush the passer, a skill we need to address. His injury history would prevent me from taking him any higher than the third.

Some of the mocks that I disliked are also based on the grouping we got, and/or my perceived value of where the pick was taken and what was available according to the mock when our selection was taken. Some I disliked the players themselves. I really like Walton in the fifth, unlike a lot of DT in this draft he can play the 3/4 NT, and he has a lot of upside. Dezmin Lewis is an intersting pick as well.

Edit*** I had Walton confused with Williams..."the swamp monster"....interesting likely UDFA out of east Carolina...could be a nice run stuffer to add to DL to spell Creathers and allow Lissemore to rotate more at DE vs the run. I still like Walton as well in that area of the draft. Might prefer one of the CBs likely to be sitting at Rd 5 or 6, but again, I like the group of players posted.

I used the Fanspeak simulator. I know less about this year's draft than any year in the previous 8 or so.

                  1: R1P17
                  DE RANDY GREGORY
                  NEBRASKA
I doubt Telesco will take him, but I would. He was the best player on the board, by far, and at a position on need. I don't think weed is a big deal... you can question his decision making, but Warren Sapp tested positive for weed at the combine and seemed to have an OK career.

                  2: R2P16
                  WR BRESHAD PERRIMAN
                  CENTRAL FLORIDA
I'd be shocked, if he fell this far. It won't happen. But he was BPA, and I went with it.

                  3: R3P19
                  QB BRYCE PETTY
                  BAYLOR
The chargers worked out: Mariotta, Hundley, Petty, and Grayson. They are preparing for life Post-PR. Now maybe they trade him, maybe they don't. Petty was still there after my first 2 picks, so I grabbed him. He can make all the throws, and he looks like an NFL Quarterback... the biggest knock on him is system. Well the Chargers play out of the shotgun more than anyone. He's a more accurate passer than Mariotta, IMO.

                  4: R4P18
                  S JAQUISKI TARTT
                  SAMFORD
I'd like someone to pair with Weddle that isn't someone else's cast off. And/or Weddle is in a contract year, and isn't happy. A good player at a position of need.

                  5: R5P17
                  DT ELLIS MCCARTHY
                  UCLA
I really wanted to get an offensive lineman here...but Huge DT types don't grow on trees. They did sign a LG, and a Swing Tackle, in the off season. I wouldn't be surprised by an Offensive Lineman, but they didn't sign any D-Line other than bringing guys back.

                  6: R6P16
                  RB ZACH ZENNER
                  SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
A Homer pick from me, to be sure. It's a tradition, I pretty much always give us a Jackrabbit with our last pick. However, I do think we take a RB in the Later rounds...4, 5, 6. I think T2 sees what UDFA have done (Oliver for us last year, Denver's RB at the end of the season)...and thinks, we have got 3 guys, and let's add a late round pick to join them. Zenner thrives in the zone run scheme, and ran out of the pistol/shotgun ALOT in college. He's a perfect fit. Of course it will never happen, but it actually makes sense.

It's probably pretty terrible overall. No one will like the Gregoy pick. No one will like the Petty pick... Perriman won't be there in the 2nd, and I picked no offensive linemen, and made a homer selection for the last round.
-other than that, a pretty solid job.
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

OK that makes sense....I see Koandijo rated top 100 in some spots......his scouting reports are brutal....wouldn't be surprised if Kikaha fell to the fourth

I have no idea why Henry Anderson isnt rated higer. He'd be a good 3-4 DE.

My biggest concern with Gregory is not the pot. It is that he appears to really struggle putting on weight and keeping it on....and this is the off-season. There was a report he was back down to 228 at a recent team interview. Is he going to be able to put on 30-50lbs, and still be quick? If not, he will bust out. No way in hell can he be effective in the NFL at that weight....IMO.
