Just watched Ekelers presser from today. That dude is excited with this team and this coach's preparation. Great to see the team getting confidence and actually a little cocky. Reminds me of the Fouts/Coryell days. They had a great offensive line and that is the key to offensive success.

Lionel "Little Train" James might have more receiving TD's than rushing, or maybe yards.

Ekeler is already in the top 25 for franchise receptions, receiving yards and TD catches, I believe. I think he has 18 TD passes that puts him around 20th, not far behind Mike Williams. I think he will move up that list several spots by the end of the season, if stays injury free. Not bad for a UDFA who does not have prototypical size. He has always been more of a pass catching threat than a ground threat. The first three years he was behind MGIII. The last two years he became the primary RB, but he got hurt last season. His ground yardage against the Faders Mon nite was impressive. If he can continue to build on his run game, he will be in Kamara's class. With an OL that can open holes, over the left side anyway, he just might become that guy. He doesn't need much of a whole to burst through into the 2nd level. When he gets to the 2nd-3rd level he is a hard man to bring down. He never goes down on the first hit once he gets beyond the 1st level. He always fights for extra yardage, often with multiple defenders on him, and usually falls forward - so often turning it into a 1st down. The only time he goes down on 1st contact in the open field is if a defender catches him from behind and is able to take his legs out from under him. We saw that Monday night on a run in which he almost broke it the house, but a Raiders defender was just able to get his feet from behind. He is one of my favorite players ever for the Chargers.Last edited by Velo; 10-06-2021, 05:04 PM.

Dave Meggette might fit the category - "look at the little Meggette" - classic Cosell
Eric Metcalf I think was more a pass catching 3rd down back too

Ekeler has more TD catches (18) than either of them, is No. 19 in franchise history in TD catches and leads all RBs in that category in franchise history.
Little Train and Sproles have been mentioned. But don't forget about Woodhead, Gary Anderson, Terrell Fletcher, and, yes, MGIII who did a fair amount of damage to defenses as receivers out of the backfield. Gordon has more receiving yards than Sproles (1,873-1,400) and the same number of TD catches (11).

I googled Metcalf Meggette and Harmon too but was pretty sure on Ronnie he was more passing than rushing yards. I still remember a catch at a his feet to move the chains to win a big game.
