I don't recall the last time I felt so bad for someone as I did tonight for England's Laura Bassett. It was gut-wrenching seeing how devastated she was after after kicking the ball into her own goal in the final minutes of the game. Talk about the agony of defeat.

I thought the worst way to lose a soccer game was to a missed PK in sudden death, but that was absolutely brutal, and no time to fix it. Shame, because she played so well. That third place game will be hard to play for both teams. The problem for the USWNT is Japan is playing with house money the way they won their last two games, the previous vs. Australia was on an offsides that wasn't seen, also in the very last minutes.
