Film Study: The Good, The Bad and The Great (week5 vs CLE)

Welcome back Diehards, time for another film study.
This weeks game was a barn burner and i could have just recorded the whole 4th quarter and called it a day there was so many plays to sift through. Once again we saw Chargers play a different gameplan tailored to their opponents and so many 4th down conversions I gonna have to call it 4th and Staley no matter the distance.

    The Good:
1st quarter 9:38 on the clock. Ball on 23yrd line
Here we see Derwin in pass rush. His get off combined with the TE false step allows Derwin to turn the corner and strip sack Mayfield. The speed and violence when he gets to the QB is very impressive

    The Bad:
3rd Quarter 12:29 on the clock. Ball on 47yrd line
Chubb makes an incredible TD run fending off not 1 but 2 Chargers with stiff arms. Tillery gets isolated by the RG same as Nwosu by the TE. White cant shed his block from the RT, Tranquill is sealed backside from the C and Adderly misses the tackle. Both Derwin and Samuel Jr shed their blocks but have no momentum to make tackles and suffer stiff arms.

    The Great:
1st quarter 2:53 on the clock. Ball on 22yrd line. Donald Parham shows brilliance in this TD run. Great play design from Lombardi giving Parham a slow release. Anderson clears the CB to the endzone, Keenan draws double coverage and after Parham blocks the edge then releases both Keenan and Anderson provide downfield blocks for the TD (although I couldnt really call Slayers effort a block :shock. Parham also makes a nice little inside step freezing the LB and giving himself room to continue outside and score. Notice how both Anderson and Slayer see Parham catch the ball and switch their view to targets they can block to get him home. Love it

    Honorable Mentions:

    Hon1
Tranquill reads the run and shoots the A gap to stuff it. Joseph also sheds his block occupying B gap.

    Hon2
Was a toss up between this and the bad play, ultimately the bad was chosen for multiple players, still this is no bueno
CLE run a late stunt and Fieler passes off the DT to pickup the Edge coming inside. Sadly Fieler was slow in picking this up and Slater was left out of position to hold the DT who easily beats him for the sack. I hate seeing my QB get rolled over.

    As always love ya

Hon2 was the same as Hon1. But fantastic work, and many thanks.

Great acceleration by Derwin for that strip...

This is the second week in a row that Feiler and Slater have gotten burned by a stunt. Garrett (95) lined up opposite Slater, then crossed over inside to that wide-open gap. As you pointed out, Chili, Feiler was too slow to pick him up. Meanwhile, McDowell (58) bullrushes by Feiler, now trying to stop Garrett, and it is he who actually sacks Herbie while Garrett hems in Herbie inside. Apparently, the word is out that stunts are the Achilles heel of Feiler and Slater...need to get this cleaned up going forward...

Thanks NMC. Man Chubb is really special. Great vision and speed. Hopefully we won’t see them in the playoffs.
