    RIP Bill Arnsparger, 88

The great Dolphins teams of the 1970s had one of the best head coaches of the era -- and one of the best defensive coordinators.

Our only DC to take the team to a Super Bowl.

Our best DC ever. He took the players he had and put them in a position to win their matchups.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    The Wasted Decade is done.

Arnie's Army. I remember when Ross called him to ask for his advice on DCs. Arnsparger replied "how about me?" Ross jumped right on that.

      RIP.

RIP. Another loss from the team of my childhood. At list he had a long full life.

Arnsparger is the who "invented"/brought the 34 D back to the NFL in the early 70's, and invented the zone blitz. Pioneer in using the nickle, dime and quarters packages.

Todays game would not look like it does without his influences.

Arnsparger was considered for the HOF, and probably should be in as an 'innovator', like Coryell should be. His credentials as a coach matches or exceeds Dick LeBeau's. I know that LeBeau was inducted for his total career as a player and coach, but in reality it was because he was a great DC.

Someone should take the time to list the combined "innovations" of Arnsparger and Coryell.....the know-it-alls would crap their pants
